Common Acura issues we see

Every brand has its known quirks. After years of working on Acura platforms across the Raleigh Triangle, here's what we look at first — not a list of certainties, just the spots that tend to need attention.

  • J35 / J37 V6 (MDX, RDX, RLX, TL, TLX): generally robust — we check VTEC solenoid behavior, water pump, and timing belt interval (where applicable)
  • VTM-4 / SH-AWD rear differential: critical fluid service interval that gets skipped — we check fluid condition and verify proper service
  • K-series 4-cyl (ILX, TLX 2.4): solid platform; we check valve adjustment interval and VTC actuator behavior
  • Older 6-speed automatic (TL, MDX): torque converter shudder — usually a fluid-condition issue caught early
  • AcuraLink / infotainment generation: affects CarPlay availability and update path
  • Older HID/LED headlight assemblies (TL, RL): module-level diagnosis required when one side fails

  • Battery, alternator, and starter diagnosis and replacement
  • Check-engine-light diagnostics — mobile diagnostic by quote
  • Oil leaks, oil changes, and fluid services
  • Heating, cooling, and A/C system service

Why mobile beats the dealer for Acura

Mobile Acura service across the Triangle — Honda-grade reliability deserves Honda-grade diagnostic depth. You don't pay for shop overhead, and you don't lose a day to a service-loaner shuffle. We text you a clear quote before any work starts — and if we find something unexpected, we call before we touch it.

We use OEM or OEM-equivalent parts (your call when both are an option), document everything for your service records, and stand behind every repair with a 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty on parts and labor — whichever comes first.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Are Acuras really that reliable?
Yes — they're among the most reliable luxury platforms on the road, especially the J-series V6 and K-series 4-cyl. Most of the work we do on Acuras is preventive maintenance, not repair.
Do I need dealer-only parts?
No. OEM parts are widely available aftermarket (often the same Denso/Aisin parts the factory uses) and we use OEM-equivalent where it doesn't compromise quality. We'll tell you when factory-only is worth it.
Can you do SH-AWD service in my driveway?
Yes — rear differential and transfer case fluid services on MDX/RDX/RLX are very mobile-friendly jobs that take under an hour.
Should I extend the timing-belt interval on my J35?
No — follow Honda's spec. A snapped timing belt on an interference engine is one of the few catastrophic failures on a platform that's otherwise nearly bulletproof. Cheap insurance to do it on time.
Will mobile Acura repair void my factory or extended warranty?
No. Federal law (the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) protects your right to have a qualified independent mechanic perform service without voiding the manufacturer warranty, as long as the work is done correctly and to spec. We document everything and use OEM-spec parts so your records hold up.
Where do you serve?
Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Apex, Wake Forest, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Clayton, Knightdale, Morrisville, Wendell, and Rolesville. We come to your home, office, or wherever the Acura is sitting.
How fast can you come out?
Most Acura appointments are booked same-week, and we can often do batteries, diagnostics, and brake jobs sooner when the schedule allows. Call 919-675-AUTO or request a quote and we'll text back with a window.
What's your warranty?
12 months or 12,000 miles on parts and labor — whichever comes first. Same warranty whether we work on a base-model commuter or a flagship sport sedan.
