Mobile Vehicle Diagnostics & Check Engine Light

A check engine light is a starting point, not an answer. We come to your driveway with OEM-level scan tools, pull live data, walk the fault tree, and tell you exactly what's wrong and what it'll cost to fix.

Why the parts store reader gets it wrong

A P0420 code says 'catalyst efficiency below threshold' — which the parts store will often translate to 'you need a new catalytic converter.' In our experience the actual cause is more often a failed oxygen sensor or an exhaust leak than a bad catalyst. The code alone doesn't tell you which.

We use professional bidirectional scan tools to read live sensor data, run actuator tests, and confirm the actual fault before quoting any repair. That's how you avoid the 'I replaced four things and it's still broken' loop.

What's included in a mobile diagnostic

  • Full OBD-II scan of every module (engine, trans, ABS, airbag, body)
  • Live data review — fuel trims, O2 sensors, MAF, MAP, knock, misfire counters
  • Bidirectional tests on suspect components when applicable
  • Visual inspection of the system causing the code
  • Written summary you can keep — including the cost to fix

Common codes we see in the Triangle

P0171/P0174 (lean fuel trims) — often a vacuum leak, dirty MAF, or failing PCV on Ford and German cars. P0300–P0312 (misfires) — coils or plugs, occasionally fuel injectors. P0420/P0430 (catalyst efficiency) — frequently an O2 sensor, sometimes a real cat failure. P0455/P0456 (EVAP leak) — often a loose or bad gas cap. We see these every week and know how to test them properly.

Simple, three-step process

How it works

No surprise invoices. No upsells. No high-pressure tactics.

  1. 1. Tell us what's going on

Fill out the form or call. Share the year, make, model, and the symptom — that's all we need to scope the work.

  2. 2. We send a written quote

You get a firm written quote and an appointment window — usually within the hour during business hours. Nothing is booked until you say so.

  3. 3. We come to you

An ASE-certified mobile tech arrives at your driveway, office, or wherever the car is sitting. Most repairs done same visit.

Your repair is protected

12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labor

Whichever comes first. Same warranty on every vehicle and every job — domestic, Asian, European, EV, or exotic. If something we installed fails inside that window, we make it right at no charge.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does mobile diagnostics cost in Raleigh?
Our mobile diagnostic is quote-based — we confirm the price in writing before the visit. It covers the full scan, live data review, bidirectional testing where applicable, and a written summary of what we found and what it will cost to fix.
Is it safe to drive with a check engine light on?
Solid light: usually yes, short-term — but get it looked at this week so a small issue doesn't become a big one. Flashing light: stop driving as soon as it's safe. A flashing CEL means an active misfire dumping raw fuel into your catalytic converter, which can destroy an expensive part in just minutes of driving.
Can you just clear the check engine light for me?
We can clear the code, but if the underlying issue isn't fixed it'll come right back — sometimes within a few miles. We'd rather diagnose the actual problem and walk you through your real options than reset a light that's about to return.
What if you can't figure out what's wrong?
Honest answer: some intermittent issues require extended testing or specialized equipment to pinpoint, and a small fraction need a dealer-only tool. If we hit a wall, we tell you upfront, refund your diagnostic fee, and refer you to the right specialist. We don't throw parts at problems hoping something sticks.
