Common Cadillac issues we see
Every brand has its known quirks. After years of working on Cadillac platforms across the Raleigh Triangle, here's what we look at first — not a list of certainties, just the spots that tend to need attention.
- GM 3.6 LFX / LF3 / LF4 V6 (CTS, ATS, XTS, CT6, SRX): timing chain stretch on earlier units, water pump, high-pressure fuel pump
- 6.2 LT4 supercharged V8 (CTS-V, CT5-V Blackwing): supercharger snout bearing, intercooler pump, brake wear under spirited driving
- AFM / DFM lifter failure on 5.3 / 6.2 truck-platform V8s (Escalade): we listen for the misfire pattern and check oil for metallic content
- 6L80 / 8L90 transmission: torque converter shudder — we check fluid color and pan condition first
- Magnetic Ride Control dampers: we inspect for leaks before quoting — these are not generic shock absorbers
- CUE / CUE 2 infotainment: known touchscreen delamination on older units; we identify whether it's a screen issue or a module issue
