Car Won't Start

Car Won't Start in Raleigh? Mobile Diagnosis — No Tow Needed

A dead car in your driveway is one thing — a dead car at the grocery store is another. We come to wherever it sits, figure out whether it's the battery, the starter, the alternator, or something else, and in most cases we can fix it on-site without a tow.

What we look at on a no-start call

A no-start has a manageable list of possible causes, and the trick is ruling them out in the right order. A mobile diagnostic covers the full work-up.

  • Battery voltage and load test (not just a multimeter reading — a real load test under cranking conditions)
  • Battery terminals, ground straps, and main power cable condition
  • Starter current draw and solenoid behavior
  • Alternator output under load (so we know what charged the battery, or didn't)
  • Ignition switch and immobilizer / security-system status
  • Fuel pump priming and fuel pressure (when crank/no-start)
  • Spark presence and crank/cam sensor signal
  • Stored and pending fault codes across all modules — not just the engine

Common no-start patterns

Symptoms point to causes. None of these is a guaranteed diagnosis — they're the patterns we test for first.

  • Nothing happens — no click, no lights: often a dead battery, a corroded terminal, or a bad main ground
  • Single click and no crank: often a weak battery under load, or a failing starter solenoid
  • Rapid clicking: usually a low-voltage condition — battery or charging system
  • Cranks normally but won't catch: often fuel delivery, spark, or a security/immobilizer issue
  • Started fine yesterday, dead today: often a parasitic draw or a battery near end-of-life
  • Hot-start issue (only acts up when warm): often a starter heat-soak issue, or a fuel pressure / sensor problem

Mobile no-start jobs we do in your driveway

Most no-starts we can fix on-site the same visit:

  • Battery replacement (we carry common sizes and can pick up your specific battery same-visit)
  • Starter replacement on most vehicles
  • Alternator replacement on most vehicles
  • Terminal, ground strap, and main cable repair
  • Fuel pump diagnosis (replacement depends on vehicle access)
  • Crank/cam sensor and ignition-coil replacement

When you might still need a tow

We'll be straight with you. A small subset of no-starts need a shop — typically internal engine problems, transmission issues that prevent starter engagement, or jobs that require dropping a fuel tank in a covered bay. If that's where your car is, we'll tell you on the diagnostic and help you avoid paying for parts we can't install on-site.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if it's the battery or the alternator?
From the symptoms alone, often you can't — and parts stores that 'test for free' frequently get it wrong because they only test components in isolation. A proper diagnosis loads the system the way actual driving does. That's what a proper mobile diagnostic gives you.
Can you jump-start me instead?
We're not a roadside-assistance service — for a single jump, AAA or your insurance roadside benefit is usually faster and cheaper. We come out when you want the actual problem solved (new battery installed, alternator replaced, etc.) so it doesn't happen again next morning.
Do you replace starters and alternators in driveways?
Yes — on most vehicles, both are mobile-friendly jobs. A few specific platforms have buried starters or alternators that need a lift, and we'll tell you up front if yours is one of them rather than pulling everything apart in your driveway and then giving up.
Will a new battery fix it?
Maybe. If the battery tests bad and the charging system tests good, yes. If we just replace the battery without testing the alternator, you'll be back in the same spot a few weeks later. That's why we do the full work-up before quoting parts.
Where do you serve?
Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Apex, Wake Forest, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Clayton, Knightdale, Morrisville, Wendell, and Rolesville. We come to your home, office, or wherever the vehicle is sitting.
What's your warranty?
12 months or 12,000 miles on parts and labor — whichever comes first. Same warranty on every repair, regardless of vehicle.
How fast can you come out?
Most appointments are booked same-week, and we can often handle batteries, no-starts, and diagnostics sooner when the schedule allows. Call 919-675-AUTO or request a quote and we'll text back with a window.
