Common Ford issues we see
Every brand has its known quirks. After years of working on Ford platforms across the Raleigh Triangle, here's what we look at first — not a list of certainties, just the spots that tend to need attention.
- 5.4 3V Triton V8 (older F-150, Expedition, Navigator): cam phaser noise and the well-known 2-piece spark plug — we have the right tools and technique
- EcoBoost 2.0 / 2.3 / 2.7 / 3.5: coolant intrusion concerns on specific year ranges — we check coolant condition and run a leakdown when warranted
- 5.0 Coyote V8 (Mustang, F-150): generally robust — we check oil consumption pattern and timing chain behavior on early units
- 6F35 / 6F50 6-speed automatic: torque converter shudder — fluid service catches many early, replacement when caught late
- 10R80 10-speed automatic (newer F-150, Mustang, Explorer): shift-quality complaints — often a software/calibration update plus fluid service
- SYNC infotainment generation (SYNC 2 / 3 / 4): affects CarPlay, navigation, and update path
