Common GMC issues we see
Every brand has its known quirks. After years of working on GMC platforms across the Raleigh Triangle, here's what we look at first — not a list of certainties, just the spots that tend to need attention.
- 5.3 / 6.2 V8 with Active Fuel Management or DFM (Sierra, Yukon): lifter failure is a well-documented concern — we listen for the misfire pattern and check oil for metallic content
- 6L80 / 8L90 / 10L80 transmission: torque converter shudder — we check fluid color and pan condition first
- 3.6 LFX / LGX V6 (Acadia, Canyon, Terrain): timing chain stretch on early units, water pump, high-pressure fuel pump
- Duramax 6.6 diesel (Sierra HD): fuel system condition, glow plug operation, emissions system (DEF/DPF) function
- Transfer case fluid (4WD models): a service interval that gets skipped — we can do it in your driveway in under an hour
- Magnetic Ride Control (Denali / AT4X): we inspect for leaks before quoting — these are not generic shock absorbers
