Common Lexus issues we see
Every brand has its known quirks. After years of working on Lexus platforms across the Raleigh Triangle, here's what we look at first — not a list of certainties, just the spots that tend to need attention.
- 2GR-FE / 2GR-FKS V6 (ES, RX, IS, GS): generally robust — we check the rubber oil cooler hose that's a known failure point on early 2GR-FE, plus water pump and VVT-i actuators
- UR-series V8 (LS460, GS460, LX570, GX460): valve cover gasket leaks, secondary air injection system on certain years, water pump
- 1UR / 2UR-GSE F-series V8 (IS F, RC F, GS F): generally solid — we check oil-cooler condition and brake wear (these stop hard)
- Hybrid systems (RX450h, CT200h, ES300h, NX300h, LS500h): hybrid battery state-of-health, inverter coolant pump, transmission fluid condition
- 5/6/8-speed Aisin automatics: real ATF service interval — fluid is not 'lifetime' regardless of what the manual implies
- Air suspension (LS460, LX570): leak check on all four corners, compressor health, ride-height behavior
