When pads-only is the right call

If you catch worn pads early — before they start grinding into the rotor — you can replace pads only and skip the cost of new rotors. We measure your rotor thickness against the minimum stamped on the hub, check for warping, and look for deep grooves. If everything's in spec, you get a much smaller bill.

A lot of customers who book a 'pads and rotors' job actually only need pads. We're happy to tell you when the cheaper option is also the right one.

What's included

  • OE-grade ceramic or semi-metallic pads (Akebono, Bosch, Wagner OEX, or factory-spec)
  • Rotor thickness and runout measurements before we quote — with a diagnostic, or pre-repair if you skip the diagnostic
  • New anti-rattle clips and shims
  • Fresh high-temp lube on caliper slide pins (so new pads wear evenly)
  • Brake-wear-sensor reset on BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Volvo when applicable
  • Road test and final torque check
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I can do pads only or need rotors too?
Three checks: (1) rotor thickness is above the minimum stamped on the hub, (2) no pedal pulsation when braking (which indicates warped rotors), (3) no deep grooves visible on the rotor surface. We measure all three at your driveway before we quote — included with a diagnostic, or done pre-repair if you skip the diagnostic.
How much does mobile brake pad replacement cost in Raleigh?
Brake pad pricing depends on the vehicle, the pad compound, and whether brake-wear sensors need resetting. We measure your existing pads and rotors first, then give you a firm written quote — no surprise add-ons in the driveway.
Will new pads on old rotors squeal?
Not if the rotors are in good shape (no glazing, no deep grooves) and we use the right pad compound for your car. We scuff the rotor friction surface with an abrasive pad before installing new pads — a small step most chain shops skip, and a common reason their pads squeal.
How long do brake pads last?
Front pads typically last 30,000–50,000 miles depending on driving style and how much stop-and-go you do. Rear pads usually last 50,000–70,000 miles. Heavy I-40 commuters wear them faster; mostly-highway drivers get more miles. We measure and tell you the remaining life on every visit.
