Why most overheating isn't 'just the radiator'

A failed radiator is one of five common overheating causes. The others — a failed thermostat, a bad water pump, a stuck cooling fan, or a head gasket — look identical from the driver's seat. Before replacing anything, we pressure-test the cooling system, check fan operation with a scan tool, and run a combustion-gas test on the coolant if there's any chance of head gasket failure.

Replacing a radiator on a car that's actually overheating because the fan relay failed wastes your money and leaves you stranded again. We diagnose first, quote second.

What's included in a radiator replacement

  • OE-grade aluminum/plastic radiator (Denso, Behr, Nissens, or factory)
  • New radiator hoses if they show swelling, cracks, or soft spots
  • New radiator cap and clamps
  • Full coolant flush and refill with the correct OEM-spec coolant (G05, G12++, Asian Blue, etc. — not 'universal')
  • Pressure test and air-purge after the job — required on most modern engines
  • Road test to verify thermostat opens and fan engages at the right temp
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does mobile radiator replacement cost in Raleigh?
Radiator pricing depends on the vehicle, the radiator type (plastic-tank vs. all-metal), and whether the cooling system needs an electronic level reset. We pressure-test the system first, then give you a firm written quote — no surprise add-ons.
Can I drive a car with a leaking radiator?
Short trips only, and only if you can keep the coolant level topped up and the temp needle below the red zone. Overheating a modern aluminum engine even once can warp the head and turn a routine repair into a major one. If the leak is more than a slow drip, call us before driving it.
How long does a mobile radiator job take?
Most jobs are 2–3 hours in your driveway. We need to drain coolant, replace the radiator, refill with the correct OEM coolant, then properly air-bleed the system (this part matters — trapped air causes false overheating). We don't leave until the gauge is stable through a full warm-up.
Do you do coolant flushes too?
Yes. A proper drain-and-fill with OEM-spec coolant is priced by system capacity — we'll quote it after we see your vehicle. Most manufacturers want coolant changed every 5 years or 100,000 miles; we'll check your service history and tell you whether it's due.
