Oil Change Cost

How Much Is an Oil Change in Raleigh, NC?

Honest answer up front: if you drive a base-model commuter and just need conventional oil, your local quick-lube is going to be cheaper than us — and that's fine for that car. Where mobile service makes more sense is European, performance, high-mileage, or any car where the right oil and the right interval actually matter.

What an oil change actually costs

Three things move the price more than where you go:

  • Oil type — conventional vs. synthetic-blend vs. full synthetic vs. manufacturer-spec euro oil (LL-01, 504/507, 229.5, etc.)
  • Quantity — a 4-cyl might take 4 quarts; a V8 truck takes 7–8; some European V8s take 9+
  • Filter quality — OE filter vs. parts-store generic (we use OE-spec filters; not all places do)

Why we don't compete with quick-lube on price

We're not the right shop for a conventional oil change on a base-model Civic. Quick-lube chains can do that profitably on volume; we can't do it mobile and still pay for the trip. We're worth it when:

  • Your car requires manufacturer-spec oil that quick-lubes often substitute (most European cars, many Japanese performance cars, modern direct-injection engines)
  • You want a real OE-spec filter, not a bargain unit
  • You want the underbody actually looked at while we're under there (leaks, suspension components, exhaust, axle boots) — quick-lubes don't do this
  • You don't want to sit in a quick-lube waiting room for an hour
  • You drive a high-mileage car where small leaks and worn components are worth catching early

Quick-lube risks worth knowing about

Not bashing the industry — there are good quick-lubes — but the recurring problems we see in our shop:

  • Wrong oil weight or spec (especially on European cars and direct-injection engines)
  • Stripped or cross-threaded oil-pan drain plugs
  • Over-tightened oil filters (next change becomes a knuckle-buster)
  • Loose drain plugs (we've seen cars towed in after a quick-lube)
  • Missed inspection items — leaks, low fluids, worn belts that would have been an easy mention

What we recommend if cost is the priority

Honestly: for a base-model commuter on conventional oil, a reputable independent quick-lube near you is fine. Read recent reviews, watch them write down the oil weight and spec they used, and verify the drain plug is snug before you drive away.

For everything else — European, performance, modern direct-injection, high-mileage — we're the better answer. Quote depends on oil type and quantity; we'll text you a number before you book.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is a oil change ever a good deal?
On a base-model car taking conventional oil, sometimes — at a reputable independent. Watch out for the chains that use the ad to upsell flushes, additives, and 'inspection-found' repairs. The actual oil-change price is the smaller part of that visit's revenue for them.
Do I need full synthetic?
If your owner's manual specifies full synthetic, yes — substituting conventional voids the manufacturer's recommended-service standard and shortens engine life. If the manual lists synthetic-blend or conventional as acceptable, either works on the manufacturer's interval.
How often should I really change my oil?
Follow the manufacturer's spec interval — not the quick-lube 3,000-mile sticker. Most modern cars on full synthetic are spec'd between 7,500 and 10,000 miles. Severe-service conditions (towing, very short trips, dusty environments) shorten the interval; honest mileage on a healthy engine extends it to spec.
Can you do European oil changes?
Yes — and we use the correct manufacturer-spec oil (BMW LL-01 / LL-04, VW/Audi 504/507, Mercedes 229.5 / 229.51 / 229.52, Porsche A40) and OE-spec filters. The wrong oil spec on a modern European engine causes real long-term problems.
Where do you serve?
Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Apex, Wake Forest, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Clayton, Knightdale, Morrisville, Wendell, and Rolesville.
What's your warranty?
12 months or 12,000 miles on parts and labor — whichever comes first.
