Auto repair shop vs. Proficient Auto

Every traditional shop in Raleigh does roughly the same job. The difference is where the work happens and what you pay for the overhead.

  • Shop: drop the car off, arrange a ride, wait for a call. Us: park in your driveway during the workday.
  • Shop: bay-rate labor that absorbs rent, lifts, and a service writer. Us: actual labor time, no shop overhead.
  • Shop: easy upsell on jobs you didn't ask about. Us: written quote, parts and labor itemized, no surprises.
  • Shop: parts you can't see going in. Us: you watch the work happen in your own driveway.
  • Shop: usually a tow if the car won't start. Us: most no-starts we fix on-site, no tow needed.

What we handle in your driveway

  • Brake repair — pads, rotors, calipers, hydraulic work
  • Battery, alternator, and starter diagnosis and replacement
  • Check-engine-light and drivability diagnostics
  • Cooling system — radiators, hoses, thermostats, water pumps
  • Oil leak diagnosis and gasket service
  • Spark plugs, coil packs, ignition work, sensors
  • Suspension components on most platforms
  • Pre-purchase inspections with a written report

When a shop is the right call

We won't pretend we do everything. If your job needs one of these, we'll point you to a Raleigh shop we trust:

  • Alignments — need a rack
  • Transmission work — we don't do transmission service
  • A/C system service — refrigerant work is not what we do
  • Routine oil changes — a good quick-lube is cheaper for that
  • Frame or full exhaust work on some platforms
Simple, three-step process

How it works

No surprise invoices. No upsells. No high-pressure tactics.

  1. 1. Tell us what's going on

Fill out the form or call. Share the year, make, model, and the symptom — that's all we need to scope the work.

  2. 2. We send a written quote

You get a firm written quote and an appointment window — usually within the hour during business hours. Nothing is booked until you say so.

  3. 3. We come to you

An ASE-certified mobile tech arrives at your driveway, office, or wherever the car is sitting. Most repairs done same visit.

Your repair is protected

12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labor

Whichever comes first. Same warranty on every vehicle and every job — domestic, Asian, European, EV, or exotic. If something we installed fails inside that window, we make it right at no charge.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is a mobile mechanic really the same as an auto repair shop?
For the repairs we do, yes — same ASE certification, same OE-grade parts, same scan tools. The honest exception: jobs that need a lift (alignments, some exhaust work) or specialty systems we don't service (transmission, A/C) genuinely need a shop, and we'll say so up front.
Where do you serve besides Raleigh?
Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Apex, Wake Forest, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Clayton, Knightdale, Morrisville, Wendell, and Rolesville — the full Raleigh Triangle.
How do I get a quote?
Request a quote or call 919-675-AUTO. Tell us the vehicle and the symptom; we usually text back within the hour with a written quote or, if it needs diagnosis first, the diagnostic fee before we book.
